Walker will need sensible shoes. It is advisable to have a waterproof jacket in winter and unpredictable weather conditions. On hot days a bottle of water and sun screen or a hat may be needed.
What is a Health Walk?
A level 1 Health Walk would usually consist of:
- A 5 minute stroll to warm up.
- 20 - 30 minutes of brisk walking.
- A 5 minute stroll to cool down.
How much exercise should I be doing?
30 minutes of moderate exercise on at least 5 days of the week is enough to start to benefit your health.
This can be 1 x 30 minutes or can be broken down into smaller chunks such as 3 x 10 minutes to start with.
Always remember that you should start slowly and build up gradually, especially if you are new to exercise.
What is moderate exercise?
Moderate exercise should:
- Make you feel warmer.
- Make you feel slightly out of breath.
- Make your breathing a little bit faster.
- Make your heart beat a little bit faster.
But...you should always be able to hold a conversation!
