Backgound on DIAC
Based at Ernest English House in Buckwell Street, DIAC is open 4 ½ days a week and receives approximately 6,000 enquiries a year from people with disabilities, carers and professionals.
The work is varied and could include any of the following: -
- assisting with the completion of Disability Benefit applications and helping to maximise client's income
- research and library work
- general administration
- giving advice and information on a range of topics including:-
- training and employment options
- access to social and health care services
- grants & funding for individuals
- holidays
- mobility
Ideally, volunteers are asked to commit to at least 1 session a week in the morning or afternoons. This would be in addition to attending regular training sessions on Monday afternoons. Full training will be given and expenses reimbursed.
You would need to be familiar with the use of computers, have good communication skills and be committed to enabling people.
