Disability Action Network

DAN logo

Welcome to the DAN

Plymouth Disability Action Network (DAN) was formed in 2000 to support and empower local people with disabilities. The aims of the network are to encourage a greater understanding of disability issues and challenge discrimination and inequalities in society.

The DAN is by disabled people for disabled people and considers itself to be a disabled people’s organisation (DPO). The DAN has an active membership that meets regularly for discussion, information exchange and networking.

The DAN undertakes local campaigning including the successful increase in the number of ‘blue badge’ spaces in the city and pressuring Plymouth City Council to provide a lift at Tinside Pool.

It also gives advice on the access needs of disabled people, for example in connection with the Life Centre, redevelopment of Devonport Park and the design of the new Barbican Landing Stage.

The DAN News

Latest..........

All change with the DAN - it’s now PADAN!

PADAN is ready to adopt its new constitution and will soon become an entity in its own right. It also has a new name - Plymouth Area Disability Action Network (PADAN).

The DAN Working Group has worked hard over the last few months with the support and guidance of George Plenderleith, chief executive of Plymouth Guild to produce the new constitution.

This means PADAN will be able to apply for funding as an independent organisation.

PADAN will also have a new management committee to look after business and to guide its future development and direction.
