Background on Ridleys
Based at Belgrave House, Mutley Plain, Ridleys is open 9.30 – 3.00 Monday to Friday and provides a drop-in service and learning opportunities for adults with Learning Disabilities.
The work is varied and could include any of the following: -
Supporting people to learn new skills through workshops or 1:1 work
Assisting individuals with reading letters, searching the internet or making telephone calls
Answering enquiries about services available to adults with Learning Disabilities and supporting people to search for new services.
Supporting individuals to be more independent
Ideally, volunteers are asked to commit to at least 1 session a week in the morning or afternoons. This would be in addition to attending a Learning Disability Awareness Course and further training if necessary. Full training will be given and expenses reimbursed.
You would need to be familiar with the use of computers, have good communication skills and be committed to enabling people. A criminal records Bureau check will need to take place before any volunteer role commences.
