DAN looks for transport to a brave new world!

Chris Wetherill, the Guilds Disability Engagement Worker, told us that, "A significant theme in my work this quarter has been public transport. Many disabled people use some kind of public transport at one time or an other. For some of them it can be an unpleasant experience, which means that in future it will only be used as a last resort. This can lead to social isolation, loneliness, depression and the inability to find work. However our work with Transport operators in Plymouth is beginning to pay dividends."

Guild looks to the future at AGM

Plymouth Guild is holding its AGM on Tuesday 6th October 2008 at its main centre in Buckwell Street. The AGM is open to members and non members, community and voluntary organisations and other stakeholders in public and private sectors can be assured of a warm welcome. Refreshments will be available at the end of the meeting.
Guild Helping to Bridge the Age Gap

An exciting new £400,000 scheme of volunteering projects aimed at bringing young and old together is about to start in Plymouth.
Funding has been awarded to the city as part of a £5.5 million cross-government scheme to promote intergenerational volunteering. The 'Generations Together' campaign will create nearly 2,000 volunteering opportunities in Plymouth over the next two years.

New Start for Avenues

After a period of some uncertainty over funding, Avenues our Supported Volunteering Project is set to continue. In July this year we signed a new contract with Plymouth City Council to support 50 people with mental health issues into volunteering opportunities. Avenues is a project within the Volunteer Centre which supports people experiencing, or who have experienced, mental health difficulties into volunteering.
