HEARING AND SIGHT CENTRE RECORD EXHIBITION
Posted on 14th Dec
The Hearing and Sight Centre was delighted with the success of its 2009 Exhibition at Plymouth Guildhall. This free exhibition is the leading event of its kind in the South West, promoting the latest products and services available to people with a Sensory Impairment. A record number of visitors attended the exhibition at the end of October, with over 1000 people choosing to take advantage of the one-day event from all over Devon & Cornwall, plus a few from Dorset & Somerset.
With a total of 60 exhibitors from throughout the UK attending the exhibition, ranging from local support groups to national suppliers, there was plenty for everyone to see and try out. The aim of the day was to bring together the widest range of services to ensure the best possible variety of choice in all aspects of sensory impairment.
The day started with bacon sandwiches for the exhibitors and Hearing and Sight Centre staff and volunteers. This was very well received but the Exhibitors have been promised free ones next time!
The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Plymouth were shown around the exhibition and introduced to the stall holders, where they were able to spend time finding out more about what services and products are available. This raised the profile of sensory impairment in Plymouth.
Trained sighted guides were available to assist any visually impaired visitors to the exhibition, as well as British Sign Language interpreters for any members of the Deaf community who wished to use them.
The Exhibition was organized by Andy Moyes, an RNIB Trainee Local Events & Activities Assistant on secondment for a year with the Hearing and Sight Centre. That’s Andy in the middle with the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress and staff from the Royal Eye Infirmary in Plymouth.
The Hearing and Sight Centre plans to hold another Exhibition in 2011.
