New Guild Advocacy Service
Posted on 23rd Jun
The Guild has successfully tendered for an Advocacy Service that will be part of our Disability Information and Advice Service (DIAC). The contract with Plymouth City Council Adult Social Care will be for a period of 3 years, starting 22nd June 2009.
The service will ensure that people with Physical and Sensory Disabilities and those with Long Term Conditions have access to good quality and timely advocacy that meets their individual needs and requirements.
This will be achieved by the advocates working in partnership with the people they support to enable them to:
- express their views and wishes
- secure their rights
- have their interests represented
- access information and services
- explore choices and options.
Dawn Clarke the Guilds DIAC Manager said, “We are really pleased about this service. We have been providing informal advocacy to clients for years. This funding will help us put this on a proper footing.”
DIAC is a very busy service, working with over 3,500 people each year and dealing with nearly 12,000 enquiries for information and support.
