Packed AGM

A packed Guild AGM heard Carole Burgoyne give an outline of her new role as City Council Director of Community Services; she was previously Assistant Chief Executive. A hands on approach to her new position saw her visiting services and going out with the Dustbin Lorries.
The importance of working in partnership with communities and third sector organisations she felt was key to delivering what the customer needed from the Council. Carole also outlined the new localities work of the local Strategic Partnership as the vehicle for joined up services to communities.
George Plenderleith, Guild Chief Executive took as the theme for his talk, “Change”. He said he was not climbing on the President Obama bandwagon but, reflecting the Guild’s experience of the last 12 months and its strength to meet these changes over a number of years. He went on to say, “The most important changes that the Guild makes are the changes that those using Guild services are helped to make in their lives”.
Nick Holman, in his maiden speech as Guild Chairman, paid tribute to Liz Pollard who was retiring as a Guild Trustee after 17 years’ loyal service. In looking to the next 12 months he expected, “ another period of managing issues that are imposed upon us, especially with the prospect of cuts in the public sector spending, irrespective of the outcome of the General Election. The Trustees are confident, however, that the Guild’s undoubted reputation for innovation and delivering the services it promises will place us in an excellent position to retain our current funding and secure new sources of funding. For the Guild it will be “business as usual”.
