Ridleys Continues to Grow in Popularity
Posted on 20th Jul
Lee Sewrey our Ridleys Manager has been telling us that the already well used drop-in facility at Mutley Plain is getting even more popular for people with mild to moderate learning disabilities. They are enjoying the flexibility of access that it offers to socialise with others in a safe environment and new friendships are often made.
Lee said, “Support and advice is made available to those who drop into Ridleys. Some choose to discuss their needs with their peers and are happy for group discussion to take place. Some have personal or more in-depth enquiries and they are offered time to talk about their needs in confidence.”
The Information Technology suite is also as ever very popular and has four internet accessible computers for clients to use. These are monitored very carefully to ensure they are not abused. Clients are supported to access the internet, create e-mail accounts and use word processing packages. The Centre also runs Basic IT sessions for those who would like to improve their computer skills.
Ridleys provides an Open Access “Drop-in” service with advice and guidance and Skills training. Adults can be referred via professionals but self-referrals are encouraged. Limits on the amount of days someone attends have been established to encourage people with learning disabilities to develop their own interests, further independence and access local community facilities. There are now 125 people on the register, who attended 3,926 times last year.
