Six Core Functions
1. Brokerage
Plymouth Volunteer Centre's primary function is to match both individuals and groups interested in volunteering with appropriate opportunities in the local community. We hold information on a comprehensive range of opportunities and we offer potential volunteers support and advice matching their motivation to volunteer with appropriate volunteering opportunities.
2. Marketing Volunteering
Plymouth Volunteer Centre encourages local interest in volunteering and community activity via promotional and marketing campaigns, such as local media, local, regional and national events and campaigns.
3. Good Practice Development
Plymouth Volunteer Centre promotes good practice in working with volunteers to volunteer involving organisations. We provide training, support and advice on good practice issues.
4. Develop Volunteering Opportunities
Plymouth Volunteer Centre works with voluntary, community and statutory, groups and organisations to support the development of local volunteering opportunities. We will target specific groups that face barriers to volunteering and work creatively to develop imaginative and appropriate opportunities for potential volunteers.
5. Policy Response and Campaigning
Plymouth Volunteer Centre identifies proposals or legislation that may impact on volunteering. As members of Volunteering England, we are often invited to lead on or participate in campaign issues that affect volunteers and volunteering and to comment upon proposals or legislation that may impact on volunteering. We campaign proactively for a more volunteer literate and volunteer friendly climate.
6. Strategic Development of Volunteering
As the local experts on volunteering, Plymouth Volunteer Centre informs strategic thinking and planning at a regional and national level.
